Volunteer Mentor/Befriender

This is an exciting time! Let’s tackle domestic abuse and sexual violence together across the South West.

Our volunteer mentor/befrienders offer 1:1 support to people who have experienced domestic abuse/sexual harm. The support is part of our recovery programmes and is offered to people who are now considered low risk, but who are still struggling with the trauma of their experiences and the impact these continue to have on their lives.

Main responsibilities:
• Provide 1:1 listening and emotional support
• Support and promote empowerment and recovery
• Promote independence
• Adhere to best practice and policies – safeguarding and raising concerns regarding risk
• Commit to offering weekly support for 6-9 months (time off for holidays/personal commitments is ok!)
• Support can be provided face to face, by phone or by video call

The role can be delivered remotely, or in person within Wiltshire, Devon and Gloucestershire. The role requires some time flexibility, but on average 2 hours a week for one support) more if you support more than one person at a time).

Training and support
FearLess will provide induction training and appropriate training to the role. This role offers the opportunity to develop skills and make an incredible difference to the people we support. The volunteer will be fully supported to manage this exciting project.

Volunteers may be asked to attend training events and meetings, which may be in the evening or at weekends. Volunteers will also be asked to commit to supervision sessions on a regular basis.

This is an exciting time to be part of our leading Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence organisation. References can be requested after 3 months of active volunteering.
