Volunteer Triage Support

Let’s tackle domestic abuse together across the South West.

Referrals for our services are being received in very high numbers and our teams are always exceptionally busy. This role involves making initial contact with clients where we have received a referral, to enquire firstly if they would like support and then to complete our DASH RIC assessment with them. This enables the Early Intervention Team to then make contact as quickly as possible to appropriately meet the needs of our service users. These assessments are completed by phone on site at our Exeter office to ensure that support and supervision is available from the team manager.

Main tasks:

• Call referrals to explain services and offer support.
• Make outgoing pre-booked assessment calls
• Complete our DASH RIC assessment with service users, accurately recording responses
• Log and save information to the database
• Identify risks and flag to team manager where necessary.

Person specification:

A role supporting our helpdesk team would suit someone who is calm, patient, methodical and has an eye for detail. Experience supporting vulnerable people is preferred as this role requires empathy and compassion for individuals who have experienced domestic abuse. You will be working alongside a busy team and will need good interpersonal and communication skills, as well as a commitment to your own personal development.

Role requirements:

As part of our client-facing support it will be necessary for volunteers in this role to talk confidently to service users and have a good level of IT skills. A minimum time commitment of half a day per week in the office is required – please note that reasonable travel expenses are reimbursed.

Training and support

FearFree will provide general induction training as well as any specific training required, as well as the opportunity to develop your skills within a dynamic team and make an incredible difference to the people we support. Opportunities to attend ongoing training and development will also be made available alongside regular supervision meetings and informal volunteer ‘drop-in’ events at our Exeter office.

This is a pivotal time to be part of our leading Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence organisation, and your help really can make all the difference. References can be requested after 3 months of active volunteering.

Should you wish to discuss this, or any other role further please contact  carolyn.southcott@fearfree.org.uk
