Removing the plaster: A call to action on Domestic Abuse Awareness Month

For over three decades FearFree have provided frontline services to support people who have reached crisis point. This work is critical, and we are proud to do it. But on domestic abuse awareness month we are making it clear that the only way to end abuse is to prevent it from happening in the first place.

No Fear Here is our challenge to build a South West that is free from domestic abuse, sexual violence and stalking.

To do this we need to think innovatively. We must look at the systems, structures and cultures that underpin our society as well as removing the shame and stigma of talking about abuse.

This work is already happening.  FearFree Business helps organisations to build safer, informed workplaces. Emergency Stop is calling on the Government to protect learner drivers and our RISE service is helping people back into work with confidence and dignity.

Our partners across the South West and beyond are doing brilliant work too and together we’re creating a network of support and change that reaches far beyond what any of us can do alone.

But there’s more to be done. We will keep working to eradicate abuse, but we need your support to do it. Whether you’re a student or retired, a policy maker or a business owner there are many ways in which you can take a stand  and help us to end abuse in the South West.

Imagine a future without abuse. This future is possible, and our challenge is to make the south west a place where it becomes a reality.
